Notice is hereby given that the Council of the County of Kaua’i will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., or soon thereafter, at the Council Chambers, 4396 Rice Street, Room 201, Historic County Building, Lihu’e, on the following:
Bill No. 2706
A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ARTICLE 11, CHAPTER 5A, KAUA’I COUNTY CODE 1987, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO REAL PROPERTY TAX (Automatic Fire Suppression System Exemption)
This Bill proposes to amend Article 11, Chapter 5A, Kaua’i County Code 1987, as amended, relating to Real Property Tax, by establishing a new section entitled “Automatic Fire Suppression System Exemption.”
The purpose of this Bill is to provide a real property tax exemption to residential homeowners who install an automatic fire suppression system which meets minimum design specifications. Residential buildings or accessory buildings to a residence that are certified as containing an automatic fire suppression system shall receive an exemption of $40,000 per residence. This section shall be repealed in its entirety upon the adoption of an ordinance or an amendment to state statute establishing mandatory installation of an automatic fire suppression system in residential buildings.

B-2017-821, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE OPERATING BUDGET OF THE COUNTY OF KAUA’I, STATE OF HAWAI’I, FOR THE FISCAL YEAR JULY 1, 2017 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2018, BY REVISING THE AMOUNTS ESTIMATED IN THE PUBLIC ACCESS, OPEN SPACE, NATURAL RESOURCES PRESERVATION FUND (Operating Budget Transfer – Kekaha Coastal Property Acquisition – $599,000.00)
This Bill proposes to amend Ordinance No. B-2017-821, as amended, relating to the Operating Budget of the County of Kaua’i, State of Hawai’i, for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018, for the purpose of appropriating $599,000.00 from the Equity / Fund Balance – Assigned account to the Contribution To Public Access, Open Space, Natural Resources Preservation Fund – CIP account, for the acquisition of a coastal property in Kekaha, Kaua’i, Hawai’i, identified as Tax Map Key (TMK) No. (4) 1-2-013:041.

A BILL FOR AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. This Bill proposes to amend Ordinance No. B-2017-822, as amended, relating to the Capital Budget of the County of Kaua’i, State of Hawai’i for the Fiscal Year July 1, 2017 through June 30, 2018, by revising the amounts estimated in the newly-created fund titled, the Public Access, Open Space, Natural Resources Preservation Fund – CIP, for the purpose of appropriating $599,000.00 for the acquisition of a coastal property in Kekaha, Kaua’i, Hawai’i, identified as Tax Map Key (TMK) No. (4) 1-2-013:041.
All interested persons who wish to present their comments may do so at the public hearing. Written testimony prior to the hearing would be appreciated. Written testimony can be submitted to the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division by mail, facsimile, or via E-mail to counciltestimony@kauai.gov. Copies of the Bills are available at the Office of the County Clerk, Council Services Division.
(The Council Committee or Council may amend these Bills at their subsequent meetings. Meeting notices are posted at least six (6) days in advance at the County Clerk’s Office and the public may also testify at any of these meetings.)
