SECTION 106 NATIONAL HISTORIC PRESERVATION ACT (AMENDED 2006)
Guardrail and Safety Improvements at Various Locations, Kauai, Part 5
Ahupua’a of Kipu, Island of Kauai

Notice is hereby given that the Hawaii Department of Transportation, (HDOT), in coordination with
the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), proposes to construct the project titled ‘Guardrail and
Shoulder Improvements at Various Locations, Kauai, Phase 5, in the Lihue District on the Island
of Kauai. HDOT proposes to remove and replace existing guardrails, guardrail end treatments and
reflector markers, grading, grubbing and paving in 22 non-contiguous locations along Route 50,
Kaumualii Highway from Mile Post 2.10 to Mile Post 4.46. All work will be done within the State
Highways rights-of-way.
Pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (Amended 2006),
Native Hawaiian Organizations and Native Hawaiian descendants with ancestral lineal or
cultural ties to, cultural knowledge or concerns for, and cultural or religious attachment to the
historic resources of the ahupua’a of Nawiliwili are requested to contact Mr. Larry Dill, Hawaii
