SHIZUE IIMURA HOWE Shizue Iimura Howe Shizue Iimura Howe passed away in Silver Spring MD, August 10, 2026, at the age of 93. Raised in Eleele, Kauai, she attended Waimea High School and the University of Hawaii Manoa (BS 1954). She taught kindergarten in Eleele and Honolulu before earning a library certificate. She was the school librarian at Manoa Elementary School for 19 years and lived at Banyan Tree Plaza on Punahou Street. Shizue and her husband John S. Howe, Jr., moved to Maryland in 1987, but after John’s retirement in 2002 the couple divided their time between Honolulu and Maryland. She was known as a gardener, sewist, crafter, and tennis player. Shizue is survived by her husband, cousins in Hawaii and California, and nieces and nephews in California and Massachusetts. Memorial gifts may be made to the scholarship fund Shizue established in the name of her niece, the Sharon Harumi Iimura Memoral Scholarship at the University of Hawaii Foundation (UHFoundation.org), Doctors Without Borders, or Habitat for Humanity. |
