Public Scoping Announcement for National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Koke’e Park Geophysical Observatory (KPGO) Lease Renewal
In accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and the Hawai’i Environmental Policy Act (HEPA) NASA is holding a 30-day public scoping period from October 1 through October 30, 2023, for the proposed continued lease of KPGO from the State of Hawai’i Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR). NASA will host a second 30-day Draft Environmental Assessment (EA) comment period in the spring of 2024.
All members of the public are encouraged to provide their input, ideas, and/or concerns during the comment period ending on October 30. Scoping comments from the public will be incorporated into the Draft EA and become part of the public record. Scoping comments may be submitted in writing through October 30 to shari.a.miller@nasa.gov, or by mail to: NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, Attn: Shari Miller, 34200 Fulton Street, Wallops Island, VA 23337.
NASA will host three public open-house meetings during the scoping period to answer questions regarding the proposed project and to gather public input. The meetings will be held from 5 to 7 pm at:
Waimea Community Center (4556 Makeke Road) on Tuesday 10/3, at Kekaha Neighborhood Center (8130 Elepajo Road) on Wednesday 10/4, and at Lihu’e Neighborhood Center (3353 Eono Street) on Thursday 10/5.
